Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has ordered an internal inquiry into irregularities in the appointment of guest teachers in government schools and irregularities in the name of salaries to non-existent or “ghost guest teachers”. The Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat has ordered the Chief Secretary to suggest the Director of Education to verify the attendance and salary distribution of all guest teachers appointed in Delhi government schools. In this matter, the Chief Secretary has been asked to submit the report to the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat within 30 days. According to the information, the LG observed that the cases of misappropriation of funds and presence of non-existent guest teachers are a matter of “grave concern” and could not have happened without the connivance of the Principal/Vice Principals/Accounts Staff. Strict action should be taken against those who embezzle government money. The mechanism of internal audit should be strengthened so that such incidents do not remain hidden. The Lt Governor had earlier allowed the Anti-Corruption Bureau to investigate against 4 serving and retired vice principals in the government for fraudulently taking the salary of guest teachers in the name of ‘non-existent guest teachers’. This case was of Government Boys Senior Secondary School located in Mansarovar Park, Delhi. In this, three people were paid 4.21 lakh, while they were never appointed by the school.
